LINBPQ

LINBPQ is the latest Linux version of BPQ32. John Wiseman G8BPQ/GM8BPQ, has done it again! This looks to be a good direction to go. I was dreading to change my BPQ node from XP to a newer version of Windows. Now I can just use a linux version and not worry. I have a computer with the latest Ubuntu on it so I will give this a try. I will keep you posted on how it goes.

D-Stars Replacement from Yaesu?

Here is a very interesting catalog from Yaesu  "A Digital Communications Guide for Amateur Radio Operators". They will be coming out with a new digital hand-held that is to compete with D-Star. They are saying it will have faster data rates also. Check it out and see what you think.

ARRL and TAPR 2011 DCC - Digital Modes for Catastrophic Communications

There were a lot of great points for further discussions. I think we as a group should move forward with digital, both for the hobby and for EmComm. What do you think?

Henderson County Digital Group November 2011 Meeting

On November 1, 2011 the Henderson County Digital Group, part of Henderson County ARES, meet and worked with several nodes using the Packlink server software. We had a great time and had great success with the equipment. We tested a future tower mounted node and it worked great! Now it is time to test  the VOIP server.

FEMA Thanks The Amatuer Radio Community

Craig Fugate, FEMA Administrator, at the Earthquake Communications Preparedness Forum, held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 in Washington, DC, thanked the Amateur radio community. He said that ham radio really is valuable "when all else fails".  His part of the forum begins at about 18:30. The whole video was interesting if you have the time to watch, at least watch the part about ham radio. I think this gives some insight about Amateur radio and public service.
